Prabhu Energy Labs Awarded Wyoming Energy Matching Funds for Methane Mitigation Demonstration

Prabhu Energy Labs (PEL) was awarded $456,450 through the Wyoming Energy Authority's Energy Matching Funds (EMF) to support a pioneering methane mitigation project. The demonstration, a collaborative effort with Jonah Energy and the University of Wyoming’s Center for Air Quality, will deploy PEL’s Oxiperator technology at a natural gas production site in Wyoming.

The Oxiperator—developed by Prabhu Energy Labs—is a first-of-its-kind technology that captures methane emissions and uses them to generate clean, on-site energy. Methane, a greenhouse gas over 80 times more potent than CO₂ over 20 years, is a key target of new federal climate regulations. This project aims to demonstrate that PEL’s technology can lower the overall CO₂e footprint of oil and gas operations while avoiding the creation of nitrogen oxides (NOx), a known ozone precursor and regulated pollutant.

Monica Prabhu, Commercialization & Communications Officer at PEL, credited the EMF program for facilitating the project’s move to Wyoming, stating:  “The WEA Energy Matching Funds program was a key factor in the decision to bring Prabhu Energy Labs’ work with the US Department of Energy to the State of Wyoming... We look forward to working with the University of Wyoming’s Center for Air Quality, the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality and Jonah Energy to improve air quality and lower the overall methane emissions intensity of Wyoming’s energy sector.”
Jonah Energy, a key project partner, highlighted the Oxiperator's significance in advancing credible emissions reductions, calling it “a showcase for responsible oil and gas production.
