Prabhu Energy Labs Awarded $2.5M to Eliminate Oil Field Methane Emissions with “Power Oxiperator” from the Wyoming Energy Authority

5/20/2025

In March 2025, Prabhu Energy Labs (PEL) was awarded $2.5 million through the Wyoming Energy Authority’s Energy Matching Funds (EMF) program to advance its innovative Oil Field Flare Gas Energy Systems (OFFGASES) project. This four-year cooperative initiative, developed in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy and Jonah Energy, aims to eliminate waste gas emissions at Jonah Energy’s Stud Horse Butte Central Delivery Point in Wyoming’s Upper Green River Basin.

At the heart of the project is PEL’s Power Oxiperator, a next-generation system that oxidizes methane and other waste gases—typically flared, vented, or combusted—and converts them into clean electrical power. The system is designed to eliminate at least 95% of methane, VOCs, and carbon monoxide, offering a groundbreaking solution to a major emissions challenge in oil and gas production.
This demonstration builds on a previous $456,450 award that PEL received in 2024 for a related methane mitigation project, also in collaboration with Jonah Energy.
“Prabhu Energy Labs thanks the Wyoming Energy Authority for this matching grant,” said Edan Prabhu, CEO and Founder.
“Together with the grant from the DOE, this project will develop ways to recover energy from waste gases without creating new emissions. Our Oxiperator is a simple, highly effective means to achieve this.”
This funding reinforces Wyoming’s commitment to supporting practical, field-ready technologies that reduce emissions while creating economic value. The Power Oxiperator’s dual benefits--climate impact mitigation and clean energy production—position it as a key tool in the state’s broader strategy to lead in low-emission fossil fuel innovation.
